The Field Berry Farm is a Raspberry Farm in the South of Johannesburg. We have berry picking during the raspberry season (January – April) and sell our jams, syrups, vinegar and frozen berries all year.
I joined this Christian community as a domestic worker in 1991. The aim of the community was for black and white Christians to live together as neighbours.
In 1993, I started a chicken business which had many challenges. I then had the opportunity to study, and completed a computer course. I got my licence at the age of 53. In 2006 I took over the berry project, it has been rewarding but very hard work. After some challenges I asked Tabea to join me and later Sandy. We now run the project together and enjoy every minute of it.
The comunity has had 27 wonderful years together and all feel privileged to have had the opportunity to share life in this beautiful place. We have laughed together, cried together, fought and grown together.
It has been so good to see how people have enjoyed coming to the farm, picking their own berries and spending time outdoors with their families.
We wouldn’t be where we are today without our wonderful staff members and annual pickers who work tirelessly in the field, the pack shed, making berry products and so much more!
